Water Street (Route 1035) in Lititz Borough, Lancaster County, to Remain Closed into Next Week for RR Crossing Removal, Paving

Work associated with resurfacing project on Route 772 (Main Street) and Water Street

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the closure of Water Street (Route 1035) in Lititz Borough, Lancaster County, will continue into next week due to weather delays. The street was closed just north of Route 772 (Main Street) so a Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing could be removed and paved.

Weather permitting, this work will be performed Monday, March 27, and possibly Tuesday, March 28. This work initially was expected to wrap up this week.

Water Street will remain closed at the crossing. A detour is in place using Route 772 (Main Street), Route 501 (Broad Street) and T-856 (Newport Road).

Water Street will be open to local traffic on either side of the closure. An update will be issued when the street opens.

This work is part of a 1.5-mile resurfacing project on Route 772 (Main Street) in Lititz Borough from Route 501 (Broad Street) eastward to the borough line. This project also includes work on Water Street (Route 1035) from Route 772 (Main Street) to the Warwick Township line.

The contractor will continue ADA curb ramp work on Main Street. There will be traffic shifts or single-lane traffic restrictions during daylight hours with flaggers assisting motorists through the work zone.

No lane closures are permitted from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM every day and from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Fridays.

Once the curb ramp work is completed, the contractor will perform base repairs, milling and paving throughout the project limits.

Access will be maintained on Water Street for the pedestrian walkway and trail at Lititz Run Bridge, and at the New Street Park Nature Trail at the Santo Domingo Creek bridge.

JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs is the prime contractor on this $1,260,025 project. Work is expected to be completed by May 19, 2023.
