The Lititz Borough Police Department (LBPD) takes seriously our obligation to the community to be transparent and accountable. This includes our efforts to release information about arrests, incidents, agency happenings and other significant events in a timely manner. The release of arrest and other incident information is intended to serve as a "police blotter" which is defined as:
"A chronological listing of arrests, usually documented contemporaneously with the incident, which may include, but is not limited to, the name and address of the individual charged and the alleged offense" (source: PA Crimes Code, section 9102).
The LBPD balances the importance of transparency and accountability with the rights of the accused and the integrity of on-going investigations where the release of any and/or all information would compromise the ability to conduct a thorough and complete investigation. In some instances, administrative discretion is applied in agency decision-making related to the timing and scope of such investigative releases.
It should be stressed that the release of arrest information by the LBPD is an allegation, and all persons accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
