“Pink Patch Project”
July 22, 2019 – Lititz, PA – The Lititz Borough Police Department (LBPD) in partnership with the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Heath Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health is proud to announce that they will once again be participating in the #PinkPatchProject! The #PinkPatchProject is an innovative public awareness campaign designed to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and to support breast cancer research organizations and caregivers in combating the devastating disease.
The Pink Patch Project (PPP) is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association and public safety agencies across the nation. The purpose of the initiative is to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment in addition to raising funds for cancer research, treatment, and education through the sale of commemorative pink patches. The LBPD became the 103rd law enforcement agency to join the PPP in 2017. The PPP continues to grow as more agencies are added almost daily and now has more than 1,000 agencies partnering across the United States. In 2018, participating Pink Patch agencies raised over $1,000,000 dollars, all of which was donated to various organizations that support breast cancer research, awareness, or support. The LBPD was able to donate more than $4,000 to the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health in 2018 bringing our 2 year total to over $6,700!
The theme of this year’s campaign is “giving cancer no place to hide” and centers on a vibrant pink camouflage version of our police uniform patch. The 2019 LBPD Pink Patch was redesigned to coincide with our theme. The Patch’s park scene was by muted in gray scale and specially designed pink camouflage was added as a background. We understand that early detection is the key in winning the fight against this devastating disease, which is why we’ve again partnered Penn Medicine Lancaster General Heath Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health. The Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health is a state-of-the-art facility right here in Lancaster. They provide patients with convenient, coordinated access to a wide range of breast health and imaging resources, including 3D mammograms so Doctors can “see it, before you feel it.” With all the advancement in imaging services, Cancer no longer has a place to hide!
During the month of October, LBPD Officers that fulfill the donation requirement will be wearing pink patches on their regular police uniforms to stimulate conversation with the community and to encourage discussion with the public about the importance of early detection and treatment in the ongoing fight against the disease.
The LBPD will be selling the 2018 and 2019 commemorative pink patch through the end of October, with all of the proceeds going to the Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health in their ongoing efforts to provide women with convenient, coordinated access to a wide range of breast health and imaging resources.
Along with the patches, The LBPD will also be selling Pink Patch stickers and t-shirt. The stickers are a high-quality vinyl rendering of the 2019 LBPD Pink Patch and the T-Shirts are ultra-soft short sleeve shirts that are offered in either gray or white. The stickers will sell for $3 each and the shirt prices will range from $20 - $25 depending on the size and style. Patches and stickers will be available in our lobby and online. 2019 Patches will be on sale for $10 and 2018 Patches will be $5. T-Shirts will be available by order only and deadline to order the shirts is September 10, 2019 and the shirts will be available for pick up or shipped on or before October 1, 2019. Notes & Facts:
- Approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.
- Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 440 will die each year.
- There are over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
