LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD reports zero Naloxone (NARCAN®) administrations during 2020.
Since 2015, LBPD officers have had access to the overdose antidote NARCAN® to be utilized in situations where a person is experiencing an opiate-related overdose. NARCAN® is available in each LBPD patrol vehicle and the LBPD booking area. Since 2015, the LBPD has administered NARCAN® on eighteen occasions to persons experiencing an opiate overdose in Lititz Borough. The greatest number was in 2018, when eight doses were administered. 2020 was the first year since the LBPD implemented the NARCAN® program that zero opiate overdose incidents were reported that required the administration of NARCAN®.
The LBPD maintains a written directive on the use, administration and reporting requirements of NARCAN® and each officer has received approved training approved by the PA Department of Health (DOH) and the PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Program, produced in cooperation with the PA Chiefs of Police. The LBPD has mandatory reporting requirements in place to capture critical reporting data at the agency, county, and state level.
