LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD is providing these simple tips which can help avoid thefts by "porch pirates."  During the holiday season, people typically have more packages delivered to their homes than other times of year.  This provides opportunities for people to steal packages.  Here are some things you can do:

1. Consider having packages delivered to a trusted neighbor who will be home when you are away.

2. Use delivery companies that have a lockbox where you can pick-up packages rather than having them delivered.

3. Use mail services that require signatures for delivery.

4. Sign-up for tracking alerts.

5. Have packages delivered to your workplace, rather than your home.

6. Tell out-of-town relatives who might be mailing gifts where to safely send packages (based on decisions above).

If someone steals your package, please report it.  This helps in investigations and determining trends - it allows us to direct resources when we can see patterns emerging.
