LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD is providing this community advisory about someone calling residents and claiming to be an officer with the LBPD.
Today, the LBPD received two calls from people who had received a phone call from someone claiming to be “Jeff Snyder of the Lititz Police Department.” In one call, this person left a voicemail that was not understandable. In the second call, this person claimed the caller missed a court date and cursed at them.
The LBPD is providing notice that no person named “Jeff Snyder” is associated with the LBPD.
There are instances where an officer from the LBPD may initiate contact with someone over the phone for legitimate matters. In all such instances, the officer will provide their name and their reason for calling, and will adhere to our professional code of conduct. If anyone has a reason to question the legitimacy of such a call, they can verify this by calling into the police dispatch center at 717-664-1180, calling the LBPD business office at 717-626-6393, or requesting to speak with the officer in-person instead of the phone.
It’s unknown what this caller’s intentions were. Many phone scams purport to be a law enforcement officer seeking money for a sham bail, court fine, etc. As a reminder, the LBPD will not solicit money or financial information over the phone. Anyone who receives a request for this information over the phone should view it as a red flag and not provide that information.
