LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD received information about a scam. The reporting person, an adult male, received a phone call from the Social Security Fraud Department. The scammer asked the reporting person to obtain $3,000 worth of gift card in order to correct the issue. The reporting person did, believing the phone call was real, did obtain $2,000 dollar’s worth of gift cards and provided that information to the scammer. The scammer then advised the person to purchase the remaining amount the following day. At this point the reporting person contacted our office.
The LBPD would like to remind everyone that anytime someone asks you to submit payment in the form of gift cards, it is a scam. If you are ever in doubt, please contact us first before completing any transactions or providing any personal information.
