RETIREMENT OF OFFICER LISA KURTZ
It is with mixed emotions that the Manheim Township Police Department announces the retirement of Officer Lisa Kurtz, effective January 15, 2022.
Officer Kurtz began her career with Manheim Township as a Civilian Aide in February 1991 and was hired as a police officer in September 1996. In 2013, she became a School Resource Officer and was assigned to the Manheim Township School District, a position she maintained until her retirement. She is the recipient of many letters of thanks and commendations, including the Distinguished Service Award and the Meritorious Award.
During her time as a patrol officer, she played a key role in solving crimes and making arrests of criminals. In 1999, she was recognized for establishing communication and rapport with a barricaded suicidal male who was armed with a shotgun. Her communications skills led to the male eventually giving up without harm to himself or others. In 2003, she was dispatched to a suspicious activity call and stopped a vehicle leaving the area. The occupants of the vehicle were found to be responsible for and subsequently charged with numerous thefts and burglaries in Manheim Township and other municipalities
During her initial years in the school, she was instrumental in an effort to reduce drugs in the school and worked with the MTPD’s Selective Enforcement Unit to arrest several drug dealers. She has been an active participant in community events, including Community Day, Shop with a Cop, and Special Olympics. Officer Kurtz was also known for her affinity for animals and vast knowledge of animal laws.
“Manheim Township is a better and safer place because of the work of Officer Kurtz,” stated Chief Thomas Rudzinski. “Her years with Manheim Township, which includes over twenty-five of them as a police officer, had a positive impact on the lives of countless youth and residents. We are grateful for the sacrifices she made and the service she provided to our community, and she will be missed.”
End.
