Manheim Township is a first-class township located in the heart of Lancaster County adjacent to Lancaster City. The Manheim Township Police Department is the second-largest police department in Lancaster County and with service to both Manheim Township and Lancaster Township, combined it handles the largest resident population in the county (larger than Lancaster City, Harrisburg City, and York City). The 65 sworn officers and 17 civilian employees serve over 61,000 residents across 30 square miles, resulting in the highest call volume per officer in the county. Officers handle a wide variety of calls due to the diverse jurisdiction which includes suburban neighborhoods, commercial plazas, several parks, urban settings, an airport, industrial zones, and large stretches of highway. Recent census data shows that Manheim Township continues to grow in population, and several new residential developments and commercial zones contribute to the growth of the community. In response to this development, MTPD continues to add more officers, civilian aids, resources, and equipment.
