On Friday, June 24, 2022, Lieutenant Piacentino and Sergeant Barry Waltz attended the graduation of the Reading Police Academy’s Class 2022-01. This marked the first time that MTPD has had officers come from this academy.
On Monday, June 27, 2022, at the Manheim Township Commissioner’s meeting, the two new police officers were welcomed formally to the department.
Chief Rudzinski was on hand to introduce both new officers to the Board of Commissioners.
Officer Dylan Canada is from Springfield PA. Upon graduating from High School, he entered the United States Army where he served as a combat medic and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He also earned two Army Achievement Medals. Prior to being hired by Manheim Township, he worked as a maintenance technician in the West Chester area.
His badge was pinned on by his mother, Sarah Mulhern.
Officer Alton Bennett is a graduate of Alvernia College, where he earned a degree in Sports Management. He played professional baseball for an independent league. He has worked as a substitute teacher, baseball coach, and maintenance worker.
His badge was pinned on by his mother, Sheryl Bennett.
After in-house orientation, both will be assigned to the patrol division. Officer Canada will be assigned to 2nd Platoon under Sergeant Naff. Officer Bennett will be assigned to 3rd Platoon under Sergeant Nolt.
Chief Rudzinski said he is “looking forward to having Officers Canada and Bennett working to protect the citizens of Manheim Township.”
