Manheim Township Police Department achieves premier accreditation status.

The Manheim Township Police Department has crossed another milestone in its history.  Over 15 years ago (then Sergeant) Chief Thomas Rudzinski was tasked with bringing the MTPD into compliance with the standards of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC).  This required a massive undertaking of rewriting policies, procedures, and practices to bring the department into compliance with the standards set forth by the program. MTPD has been accredited through PLEAC since 2008.

PLEAC requires that agencies comply with the 125 standards that have been established, and show yearly proof that those standards are being adhered to.

“Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The cornerstone of this strategy lies in the promulgation of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Participating administrators then conduct a thorough analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives.”

On January 26, 2023, Manheim Township Police Accreditation Team Members:  Accreditation Manager Lt. Piacentino, Sgt. Waltz, CA Hoover were present at the PLEAC meeting in Harrisburg to accept another milestone achievement.  MTPD has met the requirements to receive Premier Agency status within the commission.  Manheim Township Police have been re-accredited five times without provisions or extensions.

There are 1,207 state and police agencies in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Of those only 149 have met the requirements to become accredited.  25 of those 149 have achieved Premier status.  The Manheim Township Police Department is proud to be one of those select agencies and only 1 of 3 in Lancaster County.
