East Lampeter Township Police Department would like to remind citizens to be aware of potential scams as it relates to stimulus checks. Remember the following:
- The IRS will deposit your check into the direct deposit account that you previously used to file your tax returns.
- The IRS will not call you to verify information.
- If you receive a phone call do not engage the scammer, hang-up.
- If you receive a text claiming you can receive your money faster by clicking on a link, delete the text message - it is a scam.
- If you receive a "stimulus check" for an odd amount or a check that requires you to verify the check online, it's a scam.
- The IRS does not contact taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.
