What Type of Fireworks Can I Purchase and Use in PA?
“Consumer Grade” fireworks which contain up to 50 milligrams of explosive material – purchased at retail stores within the Commonwealth.
Where Can I Shoot Off Fireworks?
(PA State Law states…Act 74C.S. Chapter 11)
- More than 150 feet away from an occupied structure which is defined as “any structure, building, vehicle, or place adapted for overnight accommodation or business (this includes whether or not any persons are actually in the structure at the time)
- Must have permission of the property owner
- Cannot set the fireworks off from inside or towards any building or vehicle
- Cannot be under the influence of any alcohol or drug
(East Lampeter Township Ordinance 362, which follows state law)
- Fireworks cannot be set off after 10pm and before 10am unless a permit has been obtained, except:
- On July 2, 3, and 4 and December 31, fireworks may be used until 1:00am
- When July 4 falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, fireworks may be used until 1:00am on the immediately preceding and following Friday and Saturday
- Memorial Day, including the preceding Saturday and Sunday
- Labor Day, including the immediately preceding Saturday and Sunday
Tips for Fireworks
- Know the local and state rules/ordinances/laws where you reside
- Pay attention to weather – windy and/or dry conditions can be dangerous
- Keep water buckets/hose nearby – consider wetting down the area prior to setting off fireworks
- NEVER try to “fix” a malfunctioning firework; DO NOT try to re-ignite a firework or immediately pick up a firework that failed to go off
- PLEASE be mindful and considerate of:
- Small children and were people gather to watch
- Our neighbors, family, and friends who may be sensitive to the loud report of fireworks
- Our dogs, horses, and other animals which may become agitated, frightened and run off from the explosions of fireworks
- Consider speaking to your neighbors to give advanced warning of any fireworks to be set off
