At 10:02 am on February 9th, 2020, East Lampeter Township Police responded to the Worship Center 2384 New Holland Pike for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, it was determined that a handgun was unintentionally discharged by a security guard; the fired round ricocheted off of the floor and a second security guard seated in the room was struck in the face and head by either bullet fragments or pieces of the flooring. The incident took place at approximately 10 am inside an office designated for security members. There were five security members in the room at the time of the shooting.
A worship service was in progress at the time of the incident; there was no evacuation of the building and the public was not in danger after and beyond the initial discharge of the firearm. The injured security guard was transported to a local hospital for treatment and subsequently released. The incident is currently under investigation and all involved parties are cooperating with police. The East Lampeter Township Police are not yet releasing the names of the security guards.
