On 10/17/2020 at approximately 4:42 p.m., police were dispatched to a choking incident in Leola. It was reported a 2 year old male was choking on food and not breathing normally. An East Lampeter Township Police officer arrived on scene observing the child to be turning blue and not making any noise. The officer then started performing choking rescue procedures. After approximately 1 ½ minutes of performing the procedure the officer was able to dislodge the food freeing the child’s airway. New Holland EMS arrived on scene a short time later and took over care of the child.
A follow-up with the family revealed the child is doing fine.
The officer who performed this life saving measure did not wish to be named stating he was just doing his job. For the privacy of the family involved, the address of this incident is not being released. We would like to recognized the efforts of this officer who performed life saving measures.
