On 07/15 at approximately 1139 hrs, a NLCRPD patrol officer observed a male and female sitting along the curb in the parking lot of Giant at 1008 Lititz Pk next to a dark Red Toyota van. The male, who was wearing a facemask, red T-shirt, blue jeans, and black flip flops, was also holding a white sign that said, “Please Help.” The couple appeared to be okay and not in need of emergency care.
The NLCRPD officer made contact with the male/driver, , and asked him and his wife if they needed any emergency care. They advised that they were fine and not in need of emergency care, however they are very low on money and do not have enough money to pay for gas for their vehicle. The subject provided a Florida license, which was current and valid. The subject advised that they traveled up here for vacation, but are now heading back to South Carolina to stop and see family and then return to their home in Jacksonville from South Carolina.
The vehicle's fuel gauge, showed that the vehicle was on “E.” The NLCRPD patrol officer then requested the subject follow him to the Sheetz gas station located at 3505 Lititz Pk. While there the officer used his personal debit card to give them a full tank of gas, which totaled $35. The NLCRPD officer asked the subject if he needed any other assistance, which he advised he did not. The driver and his wife thanked the officer several times and continued on their journey back to Florida.
