The Lancaster County Wide Forensics Unit consists of specially trained and certified officers from police agencies throughout Lancaster County, operated under the auspices of the Office of the District Attorney. The NLCRPD is an active member of this unit, having obtained certification in forensic investigation and crime scene recovery. The NLCRPD Forensics Services Unit (FSU) is deployed throughout the county as needed upon request. The NLCRPD deploys the NLCRPD FSU all on high-profile crime scenes such as homicides, robbery, major burglary, sex offenses and other crime scenes within the NLCRPD primary jurisdiction on any case where advanced evidence identification, collection, and scene documentation is necessary.
The NLCRPD employs multiple technology platforms by NLCRPD agency members in the investigation of crimes where the NLCRPD FSU is utilized. This means that the NLCRPD deploys officers with forensic evidence recovery expertise to these types of investigations. The NLCRPD utilizes Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAV) and forensic scanners to map the crash or crime scenes, this data is then exported to 3D animation applications. The members of the NLCRPD FSU are qualified as experts in the identification, collection, handling, and storage of forensic evidence.
