October 19, 2022, @ 4:42 PM NLCRPD was dispatched for a shooting incident at Turkey Hill, located in the 5000 block of Main Street, in East Petersburg Borough. The reporting person, a clerk at Turkey Hill, reported that a BMW X2 hatch-back operated by an adult male pulled into the parking lot, exited the vehicle, and appeared to have sustained an injury consistent with a shooting. Both police and EMS were called.
On scene, police found that the driver’s side of the BMW, owned by a third party, had been struck numerous times from an obvious shooting incident and the driver had sustained a non-life-threatening wound. It was also discovered that an infant child, found unharmed, had likely been an occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The victim/driver, identified as a 21-year-old adult male from Lancaster, was transported to the hospital via ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. NLCRPD Detectives interviewed the male victim at the hospital and others connected with the incident. The infant child was cared for by family members who had arrived on the scene.
The NLCRPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID), forensics, and other resources responded to the incident to complete preliminary interviews and determine the origin and facts surrounding the reported incident.
Evidence and preliminary interviews suggested that the shooting did not take place in East Petersburg. Preliminary information suggested that the victim/driver had dropped off an adult female passenger north of Penn Township and was returning to Lancaster with the child when the shooting occurred. The shooting is currently NOT believed to have been domestic-related or associated with child custody. NLCRPD is actively completing follow-ups to uncover and identify facts surrounding the how, when, why, and where the shooting occurred.
Additional information has been received suggesting that the shooting is an isolated incident, and that the victim/driver was specifically targeted by the suspect(s) involved. Police are confident this was not a random shooting and has found no evidence to suggest any immediate danger to the public associated with the incident investigated. The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released when available and appropriate.
The vehicle was removed from the Turkey Hill parking area and secured in police custody for evidentiary purposes.
