NLCRPD was contacted by a reporting party who advised that her father is a resident of a facility in Penn Township. Her father is affected by the onset of dementia and other cognitive diminishing factors, as a result he has been victimized by an unknown subject who periodically contacts him by telephone. The caller requests a cash transfer or check be sent to a prespecified bank account. In return the victim was told he would be reimbursed in full and also provided with a new car of choice. Payments were made in excess of $50,000.00. Loss was avoided after an intervention by an alert and skeptical family member notified the bank who cancelled all transactions. NLCRPD reminds the public that there are unscrupulous predators at work to steal from our vulnerable community members. Had it not been for the efforts of family members this loss would have occurred with little or no chance of recovery.
