An alert Warwick Township resident turned the tables on a scammer and as a result avoided a loss of over three thousand dollars in cash. The NLCRPD completed the reporting of a suspicious activities event. This officer was dispatched to Pleasant Hill Drive. The reporting party reported that she was receiving text messages from the FBI requesting money. Reporting party began getting text messages from two unknown phone numbers. She stated that one person claimed to be a lawyer, and the other claimed to work for the FBI. She stated that the person who claimed to be from the FBI sent a picture of an FBI identification card. NLCRPD reviewed the picture, which appeared to be a google searched FBI picture with the name and personal information blurred out. She stated that the male claiming to be from the FBI requested that Cole send $3,000.00. Caller stated that she did not send the money, stopped responding, and decided to contact the police. Smart move – this is a scam and an instant savings of cash by the alert citizen.
