One person was shot Wednesday morning in a Lititz-area parking lot after an apparent road-rage incident between two drivers. Preliminary investigation indicates two men in separate cars were driving on Newport Road before pulling off into the parking lot of Family Cupboard Restaurant & Buffet, at 12 W. Newport Road.
After they entered into the parking lot a confrontation occurred and a single shot was fired by a 74 year old male, who was lawfully carrying a concealed handgun. The victim a 29 year old male, was struck in the face and jaw. The victim was transported to the Lancaster General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The victim was reportedly in stable condition following surgery.
The NLCRPD secured both the shooter and the weapon at the scene of the event. The shooter is cooperating with the NLCRPD investigation. Following interviews, and forensic analysis at the scene of the shooting, the shooter was released from police custody without charges. This release was based upon the ongoing nature of the investigation and the guidance of the Office of the Lancaster County District Attorney.
The NLCRPD is withholding the names of both the shooter and the victim, associated with this investigation .The investigation continues and further determinations concerning this matter will follow.
