On 07/06/202 1NLCRPD was contacted by Lancaster County Wide Communication regarding a fraud not in progress. The victim resides on Republic Drive in Warwick Township. Caller indicated she purchased a golden retriever puppy from Dallas Texas based company.
Reporting party stated she received a confirmation email that the puppy had shipped. She later received a phone call that she is required to send $860.00 dollars cash to insure the puppy. Reporting party stated she transferred the money, and the business gave her another shipping date. She was later contacted by the vendor claiming the dog was in Texas and required a special crate for transport. Reporting party stated the business told her she needs to send $800.00 dollars cash for the cost of the crate. Reporting party stated the company told her the money will be reimbursed when she receives the dog. Reporting party went on to explain when the dog made it to Georgia, she was contacted by again requesting that she send them $500.00 dollars in Visa gift cards due to the dog requiring shots. Reporting party indicated that she was told by that the dog should not require shots due to the puppy being 12 weeks old. Reporting party claims the dog was to leave the airport in Georgia to fly to Pennsylvania however, she was told she is required to send an additional $900.00 dollars cash for the dog to make it into Pennsylvania due to Covid-19 regulations. Reporting party told the vendor she will not send any more money and wants a full refund.
This fraud is an electronic based fraud and resulted in the loss of thousands of dollars to the victim. The victim is seeking cost recovery, but the “vendor” is likely a fictitious company based offshore and likely beyond the reach of justice.
