The NLCRPD is currently seeking potential applicants to serve on the Youth Aid Panel (YAP). The NLCRPD YAP consists of community members, supervised by an assigned NLCRPD Police Officer, the panel operates in a collaborative team-based environment under the authority of the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
The purpose of the NLCRPD YAP is to evaluate selected criminal cases of eligible first-time juvenile offenders for low-level crimes and develop alternative methods of diversion without charging. This programming is designed to allow pre-charging diversion to allow juveniles an opportunity not afforded under the criminal justice system if charging documents are filed. The purpose of alternative programming and the YAP is to help educate and change or alter a juvenile’s future behavior through methods outside of criminal prosecution and penalty. The purpose is to instill accountability for wrongdoing but provides a reasonable alternative to formal prosecution for the betterment of our community’s youth. The NLCRPD YAP meets monthly to evaluate appropriate cases for consideration and discuss alternative methods of assisting the offending juvenile in reaching a successful diversionary outcome in the best interest of the child, the victim, and the community.
The desired NLCRPD YAP applicant must be a current resident of the NLCRPD primary jurisdiction of East Petersburg Borough, Warwick Township, Penn Township, or Clay Township. Those persons responding to this notification will be contacted to make determinations for selection and participation in the process. Suitable candidates must obtain and maintain a child services background check and complete a required training program prepared and delivered by the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office. If you have an interest in being a member of the team, please contact Corporal Adam Webber (WebberA@nlcrpd.org) or Officer Corey Twaddell (TwaddelC@nlcrpd.org) or leave a message by contacting the NLCRPD administrative Office at (717)733-0965.
