April 12, 2021 – National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week occurs every year on the second full week of April as a time to recognize and thank telecommunications personnel in the public safety communications field. This year the week runs from April 11-17, and the NLCRPD takes time out to honor our “behind-the-scenes heroes.”
The Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department is dispatched by the Lancaster County Wide Communications Center which has telecommunications officers that work 24/7, 365 days a year. These men and women answer calls for help, gather essential information and dispatch the appropriate assistance. They can often make the difference between life and death for a person in need.
Public safety telecommunicators are more than just a calm and reassuring voice at the other end of the phone. They are knowledgeable and highly trained individuals who work closely with other Lancaster County police agencies, fire, and medical personnel as well as public safety and police officers in the college community.
NLCRPD officers rely on this lifeline every minute of every day, and even though sometimes it may appear we underappreciate or perhaps take the essential actions of our telecommunicators for granted, rest assured we always are thankful for the professional, calm, and vital link these professionals provide our NLCRPD team in meeting the goals of the public safety mission.
