As an expanded public awareness portion of the NLCRPD web page. A drop-down tab has been added identified as TRAFFIC STUDIES. This provides a series of current and archived reporting concerning traffic data collection and analysis by the NLCRPD for speed and traffic flow. Readers are encouraged to review this data to have a greater understanding of the efforts undertaken to assure safe travels within the NLCRPD jurisdiction and participating municipalities.
The NLCRPD has the equipment and training to conduct accurate and effective studies of traffic related issues for those municipalities covered by the NLCRPD. As an essential part of this process the agency has the ability to apply both active and passive measures for the flow and speed of traffic within the given study area. This information is then provided to the appropriate municipal stake holder for follow up remediation or other measures.
It is important to note that in some of the studies there is an outcome that simply is unable to be addressed within the framework of allowable traffic calming or other approved activities in accordance with regulatory statutes. In this case education and enforcement are the best available tools for addressing data validated concerns.
In other outcomes the data collection and analysis provides verification that the data does not support the reporting expressed by members of the community, and this study reporting provides the citizen with a measurable and transferable outcome to assuage their concerns.
It is important to note that while most of the complaints the NLCRPD receives concerning traffic flow are related to speed, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is the only state in the entire nation to forbid by municipal police departments the use of RADAR, LIDAR, or other easily utilized hand held or vehicle mounted speed monitoring and enforcement tools.
