Officer Drew Eshelman, a two year veteran of the NLCRPD was presented with two lifesaving awards and written commendations for his actions during two life threatening responses during 2021. These acts are depicted in the narratives that follow: (pictured in the middle w/ Officers Hahn and Arseneau)
The NLCRPD lifesaving award was issued to Officer Drew Eshelman and an assisting - Officer Alexander Arseneau for their prompt actions that prevented the loss of life to a 13-year-old male on May 1, 2021, at 10:25 hours. This action occurred in the field on a property in the 600 block of East Millport Road. This property actually falls within the municipal boundaries of both Warwick and Manheim Townships. The victim was a child who was operating a horse drawn power mower on a sloped embankment, when the mower suddenly overturned trapping the child under the mower. The NLCRPD officers arrived and applied tourniquets to the injured child staunching the blood flow, and further rendered assistance until the arrival of the Manheim Township Police Department and the Manheim Township EMS personnel on scene.
The NLCRPD lifesaving award is issued to Officer Drew Eshelman for his prompt actions that prevented the loss of life to an adult female on June 25, 2021 at 15:41 hours. This action occurred on the roadway in the 900 block of Temperance Hill Road. Within the municipal boundaries of Penn Township. The victim was a driver of a passenger car involved in a head on crash who suffered life threatening injury to her leg from the rapid onset of the effects from exsanguination. The NLCRPD officer arrived and applied tourniquets to the injured child staunching the blood flow, and further rendered assistance until the arrival of the EMS personnel and Fire / Rescue on scene.
