NLCRPD continues the investigation into a hit and run crash involving a horse and buggy conveyance that left several members of a plain sect family injured. The Saturday evening crash occurred at 20:37 hours on East Newport Road at Clay Road in Warwick Township. Initial reports from the crash scene indicated there were four persons in the buggy, with a child and a female adult reportedly entrapped in the wreckage.
Multiple Fire Services and EMS providers were involved in the rescue effort that sent four persons to area medical facilities for hospital based medical care. This included both adult and children members of a family group. The ages and conditions of the victims are being withheld.
NLCRPD patrols interviewed the witnesses to the crash who reported that a dark colored vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed was the striking vehicle. This vehicle continued from the impact scene and fled the crash location. The operator and owner of the striking vehicle are being sought in connection with this ongoing criminal investigation. Weather conditions at the time of the nighttime crash included light mist or drizzle. The black colored buggy was being drawn by a horse that while injured survived the crash. The buggy was removed from the crash scene by a flat bed wrecker and the horse was secured in a nearby farmer’s pasture until the owner can recover the animal.
The NLCRPD has concluded the on-scene phase of this investigation but continues the follow-up phase into the criminal acts associated with the hit and run involving personal injury. The striking vehicle is believed to be a 2014-20176 Kia Forte based upon evidence found at the crash scene. Anyone with information leading to the identification of the person responsible, owner, or location of the striking vehicle is requested to contact the NLCRPD at the NLCRPD Police Dispatch: (717) 664-1180 or (800) 957-2677 or the NLCRPD Administrative offices at 717-733-0965.
