NLCRPD completed the reporting of an event related to a fraud. Reporting party was advised that an ATT account was set up in her name and a phone was shipped to her previous home in her name. No loss of funds. Phone was sent back to ATT. The reporting party, claimed she was a victim of identity theft and explained that that she received a call from the owner of her previous home located at and address in Rapho Township stating that she had received a package, the package contents was later determined to be an iPhone 12 from AT&T.
The reporting party stated that she contacted AT&T and advised that she did not set up an account with them. AT&T explained for an order to be executed certain confidential personal identifiers must be provided in order to open an account. The reporting party was then in contact with the NLCRPD because she believes she became the victim of identity theft. NLCRPD confirmed no loss of funds has occurred and that no one else has accessed her accounts. The reporting party stated that she sent the phone back immediately. AT&T stated that it was paid for with an American Express Credit Card and the reporting party confirmed to NLCRPD investigators that she did not have an American Express Card. Records indicate the phone was purchased on 12-29-20 at 14:38 hours with a receipt of $57.00 paid and an amount of $949.00 still owed on the phone.
