NLCRPD received an incident from LCWC regarding a fraud report. The reporting party stated today that she received an email advising her to contact a number regarding a PayPal Purchase. This confused the reporting party because she didn't have a PayPal, so she called the number provided. She contact the number and spoke with two males with an Asian Indian accent. The subjects were able to convince the victim to give them remote access to her computer. The victim observed them moving data around on her laptop and even logged into her bank account for them. Afterward, they had the victim take an Uber to her local bank, where she withdrew all $3000.00 from her bank account and then proceeded to Target and purchased a $500.00 Gift Card that she provided them. After giving them the card, she realized something was wrong and that she was being scammed. At this time, the victim was limited to a reported verified loss of $500.00, which was sent through a Target Gift Card that is considered untraceable at this time. Victim was instructed to make immediate contact with her bank to file a fraud investigation report. Victim is only considered a victim of bank fraud at this time, and no evidence of identity fraud exists at this time.
