April 11, 2023 Municipal Brief
At the April 11, 2023 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, the Borough’s Auditing firm, RKL LLP, reviewed the Borough’s 2022 audit results and financial statements and offer a clean opinion and the financial statements are presented fairly in all material respects.
The Borough Manager reported that 1) the next LCBA meeting will be held on April 26, 2023 in Ephrata; 2) as approved by Borough Council, the plaques will be ordered for the memorial trees on the Borough property for Councilmembers and employees who were active at the time of their passing: Mike Sollenberger, Don Bachman, Harold Wiker, and Diana Hallman; 3) he will look into having the Bradford Pear trees removed from the planting pockets at the Square, as recommended by the Tree Committee; 4) commended Dale Kaufman for doing a great job with maintaining the planting pockets in the Square; 5) an article will appear in the next Strasburg Heritage Society’s magazine about Judge Herbert Millen. It was Borough Council’s recommendation to pursue placing his historic marker at the Square; 6) the Planning Commission may meet in May for a pre-application review for the old Strasburg Elementary School; 7) the Lancaster County grant check was received; 8) he attended the April 4th HARB meeting and explained the background behind the formation of the ad-hoc committee and the possible ordinance update; 9) he received a current fire company roster and a sample ordinance for the possible Act 172 tax credit. He will continue to research all options; 10) he will provide a Codes Enforcement report from Solanco Engineering with his monthly report; and 11) he will meet with Standard & Poor to provide information to update our bond rating.
The Police Chief reported for the month of March 2023, the Police Department had 392 calls for service. There were no criminal arrests, 20 speeding arrests, 51 other traffic arrests, four parking tickets, 29 traffic warnings, and two accidents. Officers Denlinger and Remington participated in Crisis Intervention training and the Department is conducting a traffic study in the Kingscote neighborhood due to speeding complaints.
Consent agenda items were payment of the bills, approving Strasburg Fire Company Fire Police to assist at the Clinic for Special Children 5k on 9/16/23 and the RunPA Half marathon on 9/30/23, and accepting and filing for audit the Treasurer’s Report.
