Chief F. Steven Echternach has had a long and distinguished career with the Strasburg Borough Police Department. Chief Echternach began his law enforcement career as a Patrolman in 1983, before being promoted to Sergeant in 1987, and finally, promoted to Chief in 2002.
Chief Echternach has a bachelor’s degree in Organization Management and is a 1996 graduate of the 186th session of the FBI National Academy. Additionally, Chief Echternach has his Professional Certification in Emergency Management.
Along with being responsible for all aspects of the department, Chief Echternach is also an Information and Intelligence Officer with the South-Central Terrorism Task Force and a vetted member of the Pennsylvania State Police Fusion Center.
Chief Echternach grew up here in Strasburg and lives here to this day. He and his wife, Miriam, have two daughters at home, Jocelynn and Grace, along with an adult son, Howard.
In his time away from the office, Chief Echternach enjoys spending time with his family, camping, hunting, biking and is active with his church, Grace Community Church Willow Street.
After 38 years in uniform, at the end of this year, Chief Echternach will be retiring from Law Enforcement and stepping into his new position as Strasburg Borough Manager. Though we are sad to have him go (across the building), we look forward to working with him in this new capacity.
