While fireworks are a longstanding tradition for Independence Day celebrations, for some pets fireworks cause panic and stress. However, with a little planning and the tips below, you can ensure that your four-legged friends enjoy the holiday just as much as you do.
- Keep your pet INSIDE your home and give them a safe place to hide. Set up a comfortable room or crate just for them.
- Close windows and doors to muffle loud noises. Turning a TV or radio on could help too.
- Keep them busy. Give them a treat toy to keep them occupied and distracted.
- Stay with them. Sometimes your presence can make all the difference and keep your furry friend calm.
- Make sure your pets ID tag/Microchip contact information is up-to-date in case your pet does get loose.
- Take a picture of your pet in case they do run away.
- Post-celebration make sure to clear your home and yard or all firework debris.
If the worst happens and your pet does get loose, please call SBPD (717-664-1180) to see if your pet has been turned into us or to report the information so we can be on the lookout too.
