Ephrata Police Department responded to the area of mile marker 41.6 on State Route 222 South in Ephrata Township on April 27, 2023, at 3:51 p.m., for the report of a vehicle accident with entrapment.  Investigation revealed that a Kia sedan driven by James Stokes, 77, of Conestoga, Lancaster County, was traveling south, drove into the median, and rolled near the northbound lanes.  Stokes was the only one involved in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office concluded that Stokes died of natural causes after experiencing a fatal cardiac event while driving and not as the result of a crash.
