Ephrata Police recently arrested and charged William Bowles, 59, homeless, with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (refusal) during two separate investigations which occurred on 02/08/2023 and 02/09/2023. On 02/08/2023, Ephrata Police were alerted to an intoxicated motorist who was stumbling as he walked to his vehicle and then left the parking lot of a local convenience store. The vehicle was subsequently located and stopped by police after almost striking a parked car. Bowles displayed signs of impairment and was arrested under suspicion of DUI. Bowles refused to submit to chemical testing to determine blood alcohol concentration and was released after processing.
On 02/09/2023, the Ephrata Police Department investigated a vehicle crash at the intersection of E. Main St. and Spring Garden St., Ephrata Borough. The crash investigation revealed that a 2012 Kia Soul being driven by William Bowles drifted back and struck the vehicle behind him. During the crash investigation, Bowles displayed signs of impairment, and was arrested under suspicion of DUI. Bowles refused to submit to chemical testing to determine blood alcohol concentration. Bowles was subsequently arraigned due to his lack of an address and the ongoing danger he posed to the public. Bowles remains incarcerated in the Lancaster County Prison after failing to post $10000 cash bail. Bowles is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
