The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the burglary and officer-involved shooting occurring early Sunday morning in the first block of W. New Street.

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police responded to a burglary-in-progress at an occupied residence and spoke to the resident of the home, who indicated the intruder was still inside.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Darron Shaw, exited the house and pointed a semiautomatic firearm with an extended magazine at responding officers. The firearm, which was identified as a ‘ghost’ gun, was recovered at the scene.

Officers announced verbal commands to Shaw then discharged their firearms, striking him. Additional responding officers performed life-saving measures on Shaw, who later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The sequence of events can be seen on body-worn cameras of police and security cameras at the residence. The body-worn cameras captured the suspect pointing his gun toward responding officers.

Additional information will be released pending review and when an announcement is made regarding the officer-involved shooting.

The officers who discharged their firearms are on administrative leave per department policy and the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office will make the final determination on police use of force at the completion of the investigation.
