A Pennsylvania State Police trooper recently testified in district court that a Lancaster County man was shot in the chest, left for dead, then shot again, in the head – by the same man last year in Manor Township.
An investigation revealed the shooter was 31-year-old Robert Sheets, who will face counts of attempted murder, robbery and aggravated assault in Lancaster County Court, a judge ruled after a preliminary hearing.
State police charged Sheets after the victim showed up at an Oak Road home in Manor Township, having walked there after being shot on separate occasions in a wooded area near Main Street in Conestoga.
At the preliminary hearing, Assistant District Attorney Jared Hinsey presented testimony about the robbery/shootings and how Sheets was later found in Virginia with .25-caliber ammunition – an uncommon caliber also used in the shootings.
The victim told police Sheets shot him in the chest Aug. 14, 2017, and left him, he believed, to die. Sheets returned the next day, beat the victim and shot him in the back of the head – the round traveling along his jawline.
The victim’s wallet, containing $400, was taken.
The victim came to and then walked to the home on Oak Road.
He sustained internal injuries and lacerations.
District Judge Joshua Keller found that enough evidence was presented at the preliminary hearing to bound over the case to County Court.
Sheets is presumed innocent of the Lancaster County charges.
He is currently serving a sentence in Virginia.
