A Mechanicsburg man was sentenced to 6-23 months in prison plus one year of probation after fleeing officers at speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour in April 2020.
Joshua Lenk, 38 of the 200 block of Hempt Road, was sentenced by Lancaster County Judge Merrill Spahn on September 1. A jury convicted Lenk after a two-day trial in May on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude officers, a third-degree felony; recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor; and 12 summary offenses.
On April 29, 2020, at approximately 10:37 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police conducted a traffic stop for a silver Toyota Tundra with vehicle code violations at the US 30W offramp at PA 23, Manheim Township. As the Officer went back to his vehicle, Lenk drove away through a red light and through a grass median to continue west on US 30 at speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Lenk continued through multiple red lights without stopping, failed to use his turn signal, and turned around in the front yard of a home in the 3000 block of Pheasant Drive, East Hempfield Township. The defendant eventually continued into York County. Two passengers were in the vehicle during the chase.
Assistant District Attorney Kyle Linardo prosecuted the case and asked for a 6-23-month sentence.
Pennsylvania State Police Troopers Andrew Hertzog filed charges and testified. Trooper Peter Minko also testified.
