A man will serve up to 55 years in prison on charges of third-degree murder and drug delivery resulting in death for two separate incidents both occurring in 2020.
Matthew J. Moser, 32, was sentenced by Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth last week after pleading guilty to crimes resulting in the death of a man and a woman about a month apart.
Moser was sentenced to 20 to 40 years on the third-degree murder charge and six to 15 years on the drug delivery resulting in death charge for a total aggregate sentence of 26 to 55 years in prison in a plea agreement with the Commonwealth.
Troopers with Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to a home on Shirktown Road in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County for a report of a drug overdose on January 29, 2020. Police discovered a 24-year-old male deceased in the home. Evidence discovered through Facebook messages, phone records and internet searches on Moser’s phone indicated he delivered the drugs that resulted in the man’s death.
In a separate incident on March 2, 2020, state police were dispatched to a home on Twin County Road in Caernarvon Township to check on the welfare of an occupant. Police found Kristin Graham deceased in an upstairs bedroom due to strangulation. The bedroom door had been shut and locked.
Police obtained information from multiple individuals that led to the development of Moser, Graham’s boyfriend, as a suspect in the homicide. Moser had been living at the Twin County Road home and a Quality Inn hotel in Chester County.
State police led a collaborative effort between multiple agencies to arrest Moser on March 3 at the Quality Inn hotel in West Goshen. Other occupants in the hotel were evacuated as police made contact with Moser and eventually took him into custody after a long standoff.
State Police Trooper Clinton Wagner and Scott Enedy filed charges.
