Images from Lancaster Safety Coalition cameras showing a February knife attack helped convict a Salisbury Township man of the stabbing.
Judge Dennis Reinaker sentenced Robert Burke, of the 5300 block of Mine Road, to two to 10 years in state prison on Dec. 26 after seeing the pictures. Burke, 37, was before Judge Reinaker to plead guilty to a single felony count of aggravated assault.
Additionally, as part of his sentence Burke must pay more than $2,400 in restitution.
Burke stabbed and slashed the victim with a knife or boxcutter during an altercation outside a restaurant in the first block of West Farnum Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 2. Burke and the victim had been inside a nearby restaurant minutes earlier.
Lancaster Safety Coalition video showed Burke slashing the victim before fleeing the scene in a car, which was then seen entering a nearby alley. The footage was able to backtrack Burkes’ movements and identify him.
The images shown to Judge Reinaker included a single still shot from the Safety Coalition which showed that the victim was a good distance from Burke when Burke chose to close the distance and confront the victim face-to-face.
The victim suffered cuts to his face, cheek, chin and hand.
First Assistant District Attorney Travis S. Anderson prosecuted the case. Deputy Assistant District Attorney Cody Wade represented the Commonwealth at the sentencing hearing.
Lancaster Bureau of Police Officer Harry Valverde filed the charges.
