A Lancaster city man was sentenced to 19-40 years in prison on April 18 in Lancaster County Court.
Luis G. Torres Jr., 27 of the 300 block of North Lime Street, was convicted of one count of rape of a child, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, one count of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of indecent assault of a child and three counts of unlawful contact with a child after a trial in August of 2021.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick presented evidence during trial that Torres Jr. committed the offenses between 2008 and 2011 and involved three victims, all under the age of 9. The victims reported the abuse to their mother who reported it to Manheim Township Police Department.
Haverstick mentioned that the reality of the case was that the defendant was a juvenile at the time of the crimes, but that he acted with predatory intent on much younger children.
Interviews conducted by Manheim Township Police Detective Sarah Goss and the Lancaster County Children’s Alliance in April of 2018 provided further information regarding the crimes.
Haverstick argued for an aggregate sentence of 25-52 years.
“This was someone who preyed on the [victims] and took no responsibility,” Haverstick said.
Judge Spahn said he could not overlook the nature of the crimes or the fact that there were multiple victims before imposing sentence.
Detective Goss filed charges.
