The Keystone Crisis Intervention Team and Victim and Witness Services with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office will be hosting a community intervention in response to the Park City Center shooting this Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 7 p.m. virtually through Zoom.
The intervention is expected to last approximately an hour. Interested parties can register here.
This event is open solely to those impacted by the Park City Center shooting. No recording of or reporting on the event permitted by the general public or media as the event is confidential.
Participants can expect confidentiality, experienced experts in traumatic events, non-judgmental support, education on common reaction after trauma and voluntary participation.
Group Crisis Intervention (GCI) assists individuals in beginning to process the disorganization and overwhelm that is created after experiencing a traumatic event. During a GCI a group is led by a facilitator through a series of questions using time progression - starting in the past, present and then future. Questions aim to help participants sort through their experience of the event, their reactions and what they continue to hold as a result of the trauma. It is important to understand that a GCI is not therapy and is a one-time intervention.
Normalization and validation of the group's reactions to the event are given along with education about why and how their body was using a natural response to ensure protection against a perceived threat. The group process assists in restoring connection and the feeling that "I am not alone" in my suffering.
