A Lancaster juvenile was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in prison Monday morning after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and related charges regarding a shooting in the 100 block of Dauphin Street on Jan. 7, 2023, that left a victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
Charles Freeman, 16 of the 900 block of Sterling Place, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering another person, and discharging a firearm before Lancaster County Judge Thomas Sponaugle.
Judge Sponaugle told Freeman during the proceeding that if the victim didn’t live, the defendant would likely be spending the rest of his life in prison.
The Lancaster City Bureau of Police responded to the 100 block of Dauphin Street around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2023, for a reported shooting.
Officers located a 15-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was treated for a life-threatening injury.
Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart prosecuted the case.
Lancaster City Bureau of Police Officer James Boas filed charges.
