A Lancaster city man charged with stealing a pickup truck and leading police on high speed chases in multiple jurisdictions will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing earlier this month.
Jordan Michael Volker, of the first block of Hershey Avenue, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Mary Sponaugle on Sept. 16 on three counts of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, one count each of theft by unlawful taking, loitering and prowling at night time and receiving stolen property and seven summary traffic offenses.
Volker, 22, is accused of stealing the vehicle from the 300 block of North West End Avenue during the early morning hours of Sept. 6.
Residential surveillance cameras alleges to show Volker maliciously prowling around a residence in the area and stealing the vehicle shortly before 12:30 a.m.
When police found Volker and the vehicle near Oregon Pike and Butler Avenue he refused to pull over and instead sped away at a hazardous speed, endangering both law enforcement and the public. During the pursuit Volker sped through at least six different steady red lights.
Manheim Borough police later found and attempted to stop Volker and the vehicle in two different borough locations. In both instances, police allege that Volker again refused to yield for officers and sped away, endangering others.
The latter chase ultimately ended when Volker crashed the stolen vehicle into a gardening store in the 500 block of West Lexington Road in Penn Township, damaging the structure.
After Volker was arrested he admitted to having stolen the vehicle.
Volker remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
Lancaster City Bureau of Police Officer Trent Wolgemuth filed the charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
