PD Assisted with Delivery of a Baby
West Earl Township, Pa – West Earl PD Officers Craig Johnson and Josh Mertz were dispatched to an address on Marlene Way for a 23YOA female going into labor.
On March 3rd, Officers arrived and assisted Madison Gadsden inside the residence waiting for EMS to arrive. Gadsden was having contractions, and before EMS arrived on scene, the baby’s head was observed.
Officer Johnson who is a certified and experienced EMT took action by supporting the baby’s head and assisted with the delivery of the baby. At 4:23AM baby, Josiah Gadsden, presented himself to the world. Officer Johnson cleared the baby’s airways using an aspirator bulb, and wrapped the baby in towels to keep him warm. Officer Johnson clamped Gadsden’s umbilical cord and monitored the baby’s and mother’s conditions until EMS arrived three minutes after the baby was born.
Both Madison and Josiah were transported to Lancaster General’s Women’s and Babies hospital in stable condition. It’s been reported to WEPD that mom and baby are both doing well. WEPD wants to congratulate the Gadsden family on their new addition and hope for good health and fortune.
