Fatal Accident
Manheim – Rapho Township On 10/29/22 at 10:50 PM Manheim Borough Police Officers were dispatched to a three-vehicle accident at SR -283, mile marker 22.2. Upon arrival, Officers located the crash and identified three involved vehicles. Preliminary investigative reports determined unit 1 and unit 2 were initially traveling east bound on Sr 283. Unit 1 attempted to pass unit 2 who was traveling in the left lane. Unit 1 collided with unit 2 while attempting to pass causing unit 1 to spin through the median and into oncoming west bound traffic. As a result, unit 1 struck unit 3. Unit 2 was able to maintain control traveling east bound and received only minor damage.
Unit 1 driver, who had crossed into the west bound lane, was identified as a 20-year-old male from Hershey and was pronounced dead at the scene. Unit 3 driver, a 26-year-old female from New Hope, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Unit 2 driver, a 43-year-old male from Lititz, and his occupant were uninjured.
Sr-283 was closed from Sr 230 to Sr 772 for several hours while officers remained on for crash reconstruction purposes.
Assisting first responders included members from East Petersburg, Elizabethtown, Mount Joy and West Hempfield Fire Departments, Penn State Life Lion, Northwest EMS, Dauphin County Fire, Mount Joy, Susquehanna Regional, and Northwest Regional police departments.
