Today, the Lancaster Township Police Department pauses to honor the lives lost and the courage shown on one of the darkest days in our nation's history. Twenty-four years ago, our country was forever changed.
We remember the innocent lives taken in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, ordinary people whose day began like any other, and ended in heartbreak and tragedy. Their memory will forever live on in our hearts and our communities.
We honor the first responders who ran toward danger at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon—firefighters, police officers, paramedics—who gave everything to save others. Their bravery and sacrifice remain a guiding light for all who serve.
We also recognize the military service members who answered the call in the days that followed. From the streets of Manhattan to the mountains of Afghanistan, they stood watch over freedom and paid a heavy price in the Global War on Terror. Their courage and commitment continue to protect the values we hold dear.
In the aftermath of that day, we saw a nation united, not by fear, but by resolve. We stood together, we mourned together, and we rebuilt together. That spirit of unity is part of our legacy, and it must never be forgotten.
To the victims, the heroes, and the families who still carry the weight of that day, the Lancaster Township Police Department remembers you. We honor you and WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
