The East Cocalico Township Police Department is proud to announce that after months of research, testing and evaluation; the East Cocalico Township Police Officers will be wearing body worn cameras on patrol. In addition to having in-car video cameras in their patrol vehicles, officers will be equipped with the personal body worn cameras. It functions as a camera and DVR combination to collect video and audio evidence.
The implementation of the body worn cameras will allow East Cocalico Township Officers to document incidents and interactions and obtain evidence during investigations. Additionally, the Department will be able to review the video footage to debrief critical incidents and use camera footage as a training tool to keep officers well trained, safe and prepared. The use of the cameras increases transparency and also provides an opportunity to capture the good work that the police officers do on a daily basis.
The East Cocalico Township Police Department received a generous donation from the family of late Officer Brennan Lied. The Department felt it was appropriate to honor Officer Lied to help support the Department’s efforts to purchase body cameras as Brennan had an interest in technology used in policing, as well as protecting the community he served.
