On March 3, 2021 NHPD received a tip in reference to possible child pornography that might have been stored on a phone by a resident in New Holland Borough. Investigators obtained a subpoena and discovered that the phone belonged to Richard Sherman (age 42 of New Holland).
On April 22, 2021 NHPD, along with the Lancaster County Computer Crimes Unit, served a search warrant at Sherman's residence in the 500 Block of West Main Street. Numerous items were taken from the residence. On May 3, 2021 NHPD received a report from a search of these items. Results of this search showed that there were over 1,100 images of child pornography on one of Sherman's cell phones.
NHPD filed the above charges as a result and obtained an arrest warrant for Sherman. Sherman was arrested on May 5, 2021 and was taken to Lancaster County Central Booking to be arraigned. Sherman's bail was set at $100,000 cash. He was committed to Lancaster County Prison after failing to post the bail. Sherman had a previous conviction, which had already registered him as a Megan's Law offender for life.
Sherman is presumed innocent.
