Investigation Update
30 N. Prince Street disturbance/shots fired incident
On Saturday February 24th at approximately 0049hrs, Officers responded to the area of 30 N. Prince St. for a report of a disturbance involving possible shots being fired. Officers were very close to the area at this time and arrived within a minute of the dispatch but found the incident was no longer active. Officers took information from the residents who confirmed that they were hosting a party at their apartment and the disturbance took place inside when a group of 5-10 unknown males attempted to enter the residence. The unknown males refused to leave and pushed their way inside to join the party. Eventually after numerous attempts to get the males to leave the males started throwing punches at the residents and one male was observed firing a handgun into the ceiling.
Officers gathered additional information from witnesses, including a brief cell phone video of the incident that was captured and being posted to social media. The video clip clearly showed an individual firing a handgun twice into the ceiling while falling to the ground during a brief scuffle with people at the party. Officers did recover a spent handgun casing which was unique and confirmed that they were blank cartridges and not regular ammunition. There was no damage to the ceiling tiles in the residence and there were no injuries to anyone at the party.
At this time, we are actively engaged in following up on numerous tips we have received regarding the identities of the individuals in the group that caused this disturbance. Updates will be provided periodically, and we thank all of the tipsters for the information that has been provided thus far.
