There is potential for a large snow storm to hit the Lancaster City area on Sunday January 31, 2021 into Monday February 01, 2021. City Offices are awaiting updated forecasts from NWS as this storm has the potential to be high accumulation snow event.
The City of Lancaster has snow emergency plans and protocols in place. The only entity that can declare a "snow emergency" is the Mayor's Office. Should that declaration be made, the Mayor's Office will share that information through the City's website www.cityoflancasterpa.com and all City affiliated social media platforms as well as local news media outlets. There is a Winter Weather Information Blog that is on the City Webpage that had pertinent information for residents. Winter Weather Information | City of Lancaster, PA
The City has already designated snow emergency routes within the City limits. If a Snow Emergency is declared, vehicles must be removed from those routes so that plows can clear accumulated snow from curb-to-curb. Vehicles that are left on a snow emergency route after a declaration are subject to ticketing and towing.
Information on the City's website for snow removal can be found at: https://cityoflancasterpa.com/services/parking-street-cleaning-snow-removal/ This includes links to maps for Snow Emergency Routes as well as locations for garages. In past Snow Emergencies, specific parking garages were opened to allow residents to remove vehicles from Snow Emergency Routes. Any declaration from City Hall should include information on garages as well as the times that residents will be permitted to park in those garages.
